So, grab your suitcases, charge your camera, and check out these simple, easy, basic hairstyles you can do while travelling.
Natural Hair
If you have 4C-type hair, one of the best things you can do is go on vacation with your natural hair. The great thing about this is there are many variations to play around with here, from twist-out to braids, to mohawks and puffballs; there’s a lot of versatility when you wear your hair naturally, and you have the freedom to switch up your look daily.
Beach Waves
This hairstyle is the go-to for beach vacations due to how easy it is to achieve. After washing your hair with an oil-rebalancing shampoo, apply a salt spray to wet hair, followed by a couple of spritzes of detangler. Once all of those products have been incorporated, simply blow dry your hair and brush it lightly.
The Messy Bun
The simplicity of this hairstyle makes it ideal for the lazy traveller. Brush all of your hair into a high ponytail, then take a scrunchie and wrap it once over the ponytail. Then, use the other hand to spread the hair around the ponytail base before wrapping the scrunchie twice more over this base. You can wrap it more or less, depending on the thickness of your hair.
Take the hair that’s left sticking out and wrap it around the front of your head, and tuck it into the scrunchie to form another loop at the front of the bun. This hairstyle is great for when you’re swimming, and it’s ideal for square and round face shapes. Make sure to always use a scrunchie to help prevent hair breakage.
Traditional Side-Braid
For this hairstyle, you want to bring all of your hair toward your left shoulder and then divide it into three smaller sections. Cross the side strands over the middle strand and then once the braid reaches the bottom, go over it and pull on the edges to make it a little bit bigger.
Tie the end with a hair band and then take a small piece of hair and wrap it around the hair band before wrapping a second hair band over the bottom of the wrapped piece. Make sure to include the ends to help keep the wrapped piece in place.
Straight Down the Middle Braid
This style is quick and easy to do without a mirror. Divide up a section of hair at the top of your head and split it into three sections. Cross the side strands under the middle strands while bringing in new sections of hair, working down the back of your head until the braid reaches the nape of your neck. Continue the braid without bringing in any new hair, and tie up the end with a clear elastic band.
Claw Clip Spiral
This hairstyle is perfect if you have a blowout or you curled your hair before the trip and want to take a nap without getting any kinks in your hair. Start by combining all of your hair together at the top of your head, twist it together, and then wrap it into a spiral or a bun at the top of your head and secure it with a claw clip. When you’re ready to let your hair down, simply take out the clip to continue enjoying the volume your hair had before the trip.
Curls
This is a great hairstyle for thin hair, and all you need to get started is to part your hair into three sections on both sides and use a curling wand to curl each section. Make sure to hold for at least 20 seconds per section and wrap the hair around the wand.
Once all of the sections are curled, run your fingers through your hair to loosen the curls and finish with some hair spray. This whole process takes about five minutes, and it’ll give you a cute wavy hairstyle that’ll hold for most of the day unless there’s a lot of wind or humidity.
The Messy Textured Cut
This short, unisex hairstyle doesn’t take too much effort, and it’s an effortless way to create an easy holiday look. Simply just blow dry your hair forward and add in some clay for texture. Yep, it’s that simple!
